An italian born multi-instrumentalist, ethno-musicologist, composer, arranger and producer in several musical fields including medieval, mediterranean, oriental, world, ethno-electro and improvised music.
After playing with Rock and Jazz bands since the age of 13, he has studied extra-european traditional and classical music for several years at the Conservatory of Music in Marrakech (Morocco) and at the Benares Hindu University in Varanasi (India), and has performed extensively in Europe, in the USA, in Canada, in the middle East, in Africa and Asia. He has composed for the theatre, the ballet, for films and fashion show and recorded over 25 CD's.
He lives in Ubud, Bali since 2006, performing and working in his home-studio on personal World Music projects that combine the « sampling » computer based, electronic music production of today with the acoustic sound of traditional ethnic instruments of the oriental world.

The Arabic influence was very strong and that's where most of the instruments at that time came to the west. Also in those time, until Bach, in both systems East and West, the music was modal and not based on harmonic progressions. 🙂

Ogoh-ogoh are statues built for the Ngrupuk parade, which takes place on the eve of Nyepi day (or silent day corresponding to the Balinese New Year) in Bali, Indonesia. Ogoh-ogoh normally have form of mythological beings, mostly demons. The main purpose of the making of Ogoh-ogoh is the purification of the natural environment of any spiritual pollutants emitted from the activities of living beings (especially humans). Ogoh-ogoh are usually made by the group of artists found in villages around Bali. After being paraded on a convoy around the town, finally it is burnt to ashes in a cemetery as a symbol of self-purification.

I love this! Her costume sleeves are two stringed instruments, just like lyres. Finding shades of Kathak in the dance, yet it is unmistakeably traditional Persian.
